“Send in the Clowns” was written in 1973 by Stephen Sondheim for the Broadway musical A Little Night Music. Sondheim originally tailored it for actress Glynis Johns, who had a limited vocal range – so he composed it with short, conversational phrases instead of long sustained notes. The song soon transcended the stage, becoming one of Sondheim’s best-known works, recorded by Judy Collins, Frank Sinatra, Barbra Streisand, and countless others. 🎶 QA: Favorite version: Judy Collins, Sinatra, or Krusty the Clown?
