Take a Good Look at My Good Looks was written by David Johansen and Sylvain Sylvain and released in 2006 during the reunited New York Dolls era. This is a song that demonstrates the subjectivity of music. To me it’s one of the best songs I’ve ever heard, and yet it seems to have had very little impact on anyone. I don’t know anyone, and I’ve never read anyone, who seemed to care much about it. It’s packaged as a New York Dolls song, and people expect something very different and youthful from that name. But to me this feels more like an elegy, full of wisdom, experience, humor, and poetry. This performance is presented with voice and acoustic guitar.
