Composer: Vincent Youmans
Vincent Youmans (1898–1946) was an American composer best remembered for his contributions to Broadway and the early Great American Songbook. Though his career was relatively brief due to health issues, Youmans created melodies that became some of the most enduring standards of the 1920s and 1930s.
His biggest success came with the 1925 musical No, No, Nanette, which introduced Tea for Two and I Want to Be Happy. Both songs became immediate hits and were quickly absorbed into the jazz repertoire. Currently featured here is Jason Paul’s recording of Tea for Two, offering a modern interpretation of this Jazz Age classic.
As this archive expands, it will continue to highlight Youmans’s lasting impact on Broadway and popular music, ensuring his songs remain accessible to new listeners.
