American Standards from 1927 – Jason Paul Recordings

1927 was a golden year for American popular song, when Broadway, jazz, and Tin Pan Alley were overflowing with new standards. It was the year Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart introduced My Heart Stood Still, Hoagy Carmichael unveiled the first version of Stardust, and composers from New York to Hollywood were shaping melodies that still resonate nearly a century later.

This collection gathers my recordings of songs first published in 1927. Each performance reflects a simple, folk-inflected style that lets the melody and lyric stand on their own. Whether it’s the romance of Rodgers & Hart, the wistful poetry of Carmichael, or the bright energy of the jazz age, these songs continue to speak across generations.

Listen below and explore more about each song — including its history, composers, and lyrics — through the individual song pages.
