I Feel for You was written by Prince and first released on his 1979 self-titled album. The song later became widely known through Chaka Khan’s 1984 version, which reimagined it through funk, pop, and early hip-hop production. Beneath the groove and production, I’ve always heard the song as a very direct and vulnerable expression of longing. Stripped down to voice and guitar, the writing reveals itself differently.
