She Walks in Beauty
She Walks in Beauty is based on a poem written in 1814 by Lord Byron after attending a London evening gathering. The poem was later included in the 1815 collection Hebrew Melodies, a collaboration between Byron and composer Isaac Nathan, who set a number of Byron’s texts to music drawing on Jewish melodic associations of the period. Hebrew Melodies became an important early 19th-century cultural moment, linking Romantic poetry with staged “Hebraic” song settings for the drawing room and concert platform. The poem has since lived both independently as literature and in musical adaptations, with interpretations ranging from art song to popular recordings. This performance features voice with acoustic guitar.
